The Harmony Fellowship connects prominent media makers and world-renowned researchers in the social sciences in order to create and produce innovative narratives that not only entertain, but inspire action, leading to behavioral modification among a broad viewership.

Anthony Leiserowitz, Ph.D is the recipient of the inaugural Harmony Institute Fellowship for his "U.S. Target Audiences Project.” Funding has been used to construct a large, nationally representative on-line survey panel of up to 12,000 American adults and 3,000 of their teenage children.

The panel aims to:

1. Conduct an in-depth assessment of public climate change knowledge, policy preferences, and consumer and political behaviors;

2. Look for underlying value constructs, political and religious affiliations, and what the constituency feels are trusted sources and channels of information regarding climate change;

3. Identify key target audiences within the U.S. public and the barriers preventing their further engagement with the issue;

4. Test the effectiveness of different climate change messages and messengers.

In the coming year, the Harmony Institute will be working with the U.S. Target Audience Project to gain a better understanding of U.S. audiences and to test messages on effective social media messaging.

Dr. Leiserowitz is the Director of the Yale Project on Climate Change and a research scientist at the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies at Yale University. In addition, he serves as Principal Investigator for the Center for Research on Environmental Decisions at Columbia University.
