Cara Shousterman is an American Council of Learned Societies Public Fellow, responsible for managing engagements with external clients and partners at Harmony Institute. She holds a PhD in Linguistics from New York University, where she researched a dialect of English spoken in Spanish Harlem and began her study of language with a BA in Linguistics from McGill University. Her linguistic work has appeared in the journals English Today and The Journal of English Linguistics, as well as in the Oxford Handbook of African American Language. Her current research interests lie at the intersection of media, language, and society. In her free time, Cara is learning aerial dance.
